Jordanian-Russian Week for Communications Engineering and its Applications, Ma’an City

During the period from 27^th March to 1^st April 2011 the first international conference ‘Jordanian-Russian Week for Communications Engineering and Its Applications’ took place at the Al-Hussein Bin Talal University in Ma’an City, Jordan.

The organizers of the conference were:

• TIRA Corporation (Russian Institute for Power Radiobuilding, PLC).
• the Al-Hussein Bin Talal University;
• the Russian-Jordanian Business Council (RJBC).

The Conference was held under the patronage of HRH Princess Sumaya Bint Al-Hassan and with collaboration and support of the Jordan Ministry of Information and Communications Technology, the Jordan Ministry of Transport, the Jordan Chamber of Commerce, Aqaba Railway Corporation, etc.

The conference aimed at:

• exploring the possibility of application of the Russian enterprises experience in digital data broadcast systems deployment and introduction on Jordan territory, making a uniform system of contingency communication to provide HF wave band communication to all the Departments of the country, including TV and radio broadcasting, aviation, land structures, navy, railway transport and the Emergency Management Ministry;
• elaborating on the possibility to found Russian-Jordanian joint ventures in this business field;
• developing cooperation with Jordanian and Russian Universities to provide a training in the sphere of Communications Engineering, etc. to the personnel.

HRH Princess Sumaya Bint Al-Hassan, the representatives of the Jordan Ministry of Information and Communications Technology and the Jordan Ministry of Transport, the Russian Federation Embassy Minister-counsellor — Mr. L. Barkovsky, RJBC Deputy Chairman — Mr. V. Kononenko, President of the Al-Hussein Bin Talal University — Prof. Dr. Ali Al Hroot, Chairman of the Al-Hussein Bin Talal University Organizing Committee — Dr. Yaseen Al-Husban, President of the Princess Sumaya University for Technology — Prof. Issa Batarseh, President of TIRA Corporation — Mr.Zhitomirsky, Chairman of the RJBC bilateral Committee on Information Technologies, telecommunications and communications — Mr. A.Vasilyev, the members of the Russian delegation, the staff of the Al-Hussein Bin Talal University and the staff of TIRA Corporation attended the official opening ceremony.

A whole number of plenary sessions, conferences, round-table discussions and other planned events took place within the ‘Jordanian-Russian Week for Communications Engineering and Its Applications’:

The officials of the Jordan Ministry of Information and Communications Technology, the Jordan Ministry of Transport, the Jordan Chamber of Commerce, the Al-Hussein Bin Talal University, the Princess Sumaya University for Technology, the specialists of the Ministry of Defense, the Frontier Troops Department, the Land Forces Department (Army Signal Corps), the Emergency Management Ministry, the Navy, the Aviation Department and airports (radio engineering flight services), Aqaba Railway Corporation, the scientists and specialists of Geophysics, Geology and Seismics Research Institutes took part in the planned events of the ‘Jordanian-Russian Week for Communications Engineering and Its Applications’.

To sum up the ‘Jordanian-Russian Week for Communications Engineering and Its Applications’ the following decisions were reached:

- To found a joint venture between TIRA Corporation and the Al-Hussein Bin Talal University with the research laboratories to be located on the University territory and the production space to be situated on Ma’an free economic zone territory. The materials and components made both in Russia and Jordan will be used at the enterprise. The Jordanian personnel will work there, as well.

- To elaborate on the basis of the cooperation with the Jordanian University the possibility of arranging the training for the personnel in the sphere of TV- and radio communications on Jordan territory as well as in Russian institutes of higher education and Russian enterprises.

The promising directions of the cooperation will be as follows:

- Realization of the digital broadcast program in Jordan on the basis of the experience of Russian enterprises.

- Implementation of the communication, alarm and safety systems at the railways of Jordan.

- Launching of the geophysical investigation projects on exploration activities and search of grounds for the location of high-security objects in Jordan.
