RJBC Deputy Chairman&Director Mr. Kononenko Has Formal Meeting with Minister of Tourism&Antiquities of Jordan H.E. Mr. Hmeidi

On 11^th December 2015 at the Jordan Ministry of Tourism&Antiquities, under the instruction of the Russian-Jordanian Business Council (RJBC) Chairman, Mr. Novitsky, the RJBC Deputy Chairman&Director, Chairman of the RJBC Commission for Tourism, Culture and Religion, Mr. Valeriy Kononenko, had a formal meeting with Minister of Tourism&Antiquities of Jordan, H.E. Mr. Nayef Hmeidi.

The Parties discussed a cooperation in the field of tourism for Year 2016 and participation of the leadership of the Jordan Ministry of Tourism&Antiquities and the representatives of a Jordanian private tourism sector in the activities within the Russian-Jordanian Intergovernmental Commission for Trade and Economic, Scientific and Technological Cooperation Development as well as the Russian-Jordanian Business Forum, which are going to be held in the first two quarters of 2016 in Amman, Jordan.

Having considered a geopolitical situation in the region and its negative influence on the tourism market of Jordan, the negotiators agreed on a number of joint events to be arranged in order to promote activities to develop recreational, historical and medical tourism.

Also, in the course of the discussion the Parties focused on events aimed at attracting to collaboration some tour companies in a Jordan’s territory as well as the Dead Sea and the Red Sea Coast Hotels Directorates.

Great attention was paid to the popularization of sacred places in Jordan and further development of pilgrimage tourism in view of the fact that the Russian Pilgrims Residence, which is situated in the Christ’s Baptism Site on the river Jordan, has enhanced its activities.

Also the negotiators elaborated on issues of further cooperation in the abovementioned and other fields between the Russian-Jordanian Business Council and the Jordan Ministry of Tourism&Antiquities.

Summing up the meeting, Mr. Kononenko gave a high appraisal of a valuable contribution of the Jordan Ministry of Tourism&Antiquities and personally of Minister of Tourism&Antiquities of Jordan, H.E. Mr. Nayef Hmeidi, to development of friendly and economic ties with the Russian Federation. On behalf of the Russian-Jordanian Business Council Mr. Kononenko awarded H.E. Mr. Nayef Hmeidi with a Medal for Contribution to Development of Economic and Friendly Relations between Russia and Jordan.
