Federation Council Delegation arrived in Jordan

Today is the first day of a visit paid by the Federation Council’s delegation to Jordan. The Delegation is headed by the chairman of the Upper House Valentina Matvienko.

The program of the visit includes meetings with King Abdullah II and Prime Minister Abdullah Nsour. Also the Delegation is planning to visit the Senate of the National Assembly. It is expected that an Agreement on the development of inter-parliamentary cooperation will be signed. The collaboration in the sphere of the international markets will be emphasized.

Furthermore, the sides are going to discuss the strengthening of trade, scientific and technical as well as humanitarian ties. Russia and Jordan adhere to similar positions in a number of international issues.

The last year trade turnover exceeded $ 500 million. Russia exports food, metal and agricultural raw materials to the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan. Jordan supplies Russia with Chemical products, textile and footwear.

The construction of the nuclear power plant in the Jordan’s territory gave a new impetus to progress in relations between the countries. Rosatom is implementing this large-scale project.

The visit to the Middle East will last for two days. Then the Delegation of the Federation Council is going to make a visit to Kenya.
