King to meet Medvedev, Putin today

AMMAN (JT) – His Majesty King Abdullah will hold talks today with Russia’s President Dmitry Medvedev to examine means to increase cooperation between the two countries and review regional developments.

During the meeting, the two leaders will discuss ways to enhance bilateral cooperation, the latest developments in the Middle East and issues of mutual concern.

The King is also scheduled to meet with Russia’s Prime Minister Vladimir Putin to further look into ways to develop Jordanian-Russian ties and examine recent regional developments.

King Abdullah arrived in Moscow on Wednesday on a working visit, upon an invitation from the Russian president.

In January, Medvedev visited Jordan upon an invitation from His Majesty.

The King and Medvedev then discussed steps to boost cooperation in the field of nuclear energy through Russia’s investment in Jordan’s nuclear programme, as well as in the transport, water and agriculture sectors.

Jordan and Russia signed a memorandum of understanding to increase cooperation in the fields of oil exploration and energy during the visit.

In addition, the two countries renewed support for peace efforts in the Middle East that lead to an independent Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital.

Moscow has been a major player in the Middle East affairs and continuously contributed to the ongoing efforts to bring peace and stability to the region.
