Jordan committed to better ties with Egypt

AMMAN (JT) – His Majesty King Abdullah on Tuesday held talks with Field Marshal Mohamed Hussein Tantawi, head of Egypt’s ruling military council, in Cairo on means to boost bilateral cooperation, the latest regional developments and other issues of mutual concern.

During the talks between the two sides, which were followed by a two-way meeting between King Abdullah and Tantawi, His Majesty stressed Jordan’s full commitment to strengthening its relations with Egypt and building on previous cooperation in a manner that serves the interests of the two countries, a Royal Court statement said.

King Abdullah voiced hope that Egypt will continue to play a pivotal role, under the new leadership, in the Arab world and the entire region and that its people will achieve their aspirations in boosting the country’s development, progress and democracy.

Addressing the latest developments in the Arab region and the efforts to push the peace process forward, the two countries agreed to continue with their ongoing consultations and coordination vis-à-vis these issues in a manner that boosts joint Arab action and serves Arab causes.

The talks were attended by Royal Court Chief Khaled Karaki and Chairman of the Joint Chiefs-of-Staff Lt. Gen. Mashal Al Zaben. From the Egyptian side, Prime Minister Issam Sharaf, Finance Minister Samir Radwan and Petroleum Minister Abdulla Ghorab were present at the meeting.

The King returned home later in the day.
